广州

Guangzhou

A city of carved roofs, living opera and long conversations over tea. Make time for its streets as well as its skyline.

Give it room

Choose two, three or five full sightseeing days. Add arrival, departure and intercity travel separately.

Read the terminal

Baiyun Airport T1, T2 and T3 are different doors. Check your airline’s actual terminal and the current onward connection.

Choose the hotel door

Compare the exact room, station approach, crossings and return for breaks, rather than only a district name.

Leave room for tea

Choose the actual branch and menu. Ask about tea charges, portions and dietary requirements before ordering.

Start with a detail: a figure on a roof, an actor’s hand, a line of arcade columns or the folds of a dumpling. Then change scale and look across the river. Guangzhou can hold both kinds of attention.

This guide connects five substantial place guides with practical decisions about arrival, a base, food and the shape of the days. It is a selective starting collection, not a claim that five places cover the whole city. Individual guides hold the deeper history, photographs and venue evidence.

Our suggested areas and day outlines are editorial choices. Choose according to the people travelling, confirmed access and what interests you; there is no need to turn a relaxed meal into the gap between several rushed visits.

Read the city

A few anchors, with space between them.

Begin with the subjects in the detailed guides, then connect them with current routes. Being in the same district does not establish a short walk, a common ticket or the same closing day.

Craft, opera and street life

The municipal district guide places Liwan in western Guangzhou and describes its Xiguan houses, arcades and Shamian architecture. Use that broad context to orient yourself; exact place identities and visitor arrangements are in the detailed guides.[8]

Our suggestion: choose Chen Clan Ancestral Hall for close architectural and craft attention, Yongqing Fang for streets and working traditions, and the Opera Museum for its garden and the art inside. Give each a different question rather than repeating the same photo walk.

A river setting and a high view

Our suggestion: make the Canton Tower outing a deliberate change of scale. Decide whether you want an exterior river view, a particular observation product or a separate ride. A tower-shaped photograph is not proof of the level or product included in a ticket.

A full address is more useful than a famous name

Save each selected guide’s Chinese destination. Distinguish the museum from the surrounding district, the specific church from a general Shamian label, and a Metro station from the Guangzhou Tram platform. Check the actual entrance before setting off.

Choose what interests you

Five ways into Guangzhou.

Each place below has a full in-depth guide. Time allowances are editorial starting points; the attraction’s own access and current conditions decide the visit.

Time is part of the experience

Give the days a shape.

These are full sightseeing days. Add your arrival, departure and any intercity travel around them. The outlines do not automatically change your saved itinerary.

A first visit with contrasting subjects

Carved roofs, living voices and a skyline.

Keep
The five detailed-guide subjects over three full sightseeing days.
The trade-off
The paired days need separate transfers and selective visits, not exhaustive coverage.
  1. A carved building and a different street scale

Make Chen Clan Ancestral Hall the anchor. Add a selective Shamian walk only if the separate journey and your energy fit; keep the meal unhurried.

  2. Opera, a garden and the surrounding lanes

Check the museum’s calendar and any actual performance, then give the exhibition and garden time. Keep the Yongqing Fang walk selective.

  3. A Cantonese table and the river skyline

Make a meal a real part of the day. Choose an exterior river view or the specific tower product that suits visibility, interest and energy.

Reorder around confirmed reservations, weekly closures and weather. These are editorial outlines, not timed journeys or confirmed admissions. Open a place guide to save a visit to your shortlist.

Choose Guangzhou experiences

Choose a base

Stay close to the days you actually want.

These are areas to investigate, not inspected hotels or live price recommendations. Compare the exact entrance, room, useful station exit, luggage route, noise and ability to return for a break.

Traveller discussions about Tianhe versus Yuexiu disagree even for the same multi-generation trip. The useful lesson is to compare actual journeys and household needs, not to turn a small thread into a universal “best area”.[13]

Liwan / Xiguan · 荔湾 / 西关

Investigate this side if the craft, opera and neighbourhood guides are your priorities. Our suggestion: compare a convenient, comfortable hotel door with an atmospheric lane address. Check whether a car can reach the legal pickup point you need, and whether luggage involves stairs.

Yuexiu / Beijing Road / Haizhu Square · 越秀 / 北京路 / 海珠广场

The municipal profile identifies Yuexiu with the older central city and the Beijing Road commercial area. Our suggestion: investigate a specific property here if a central street-based stay suits your actual plan. A district label does not establish the length or comfort of the walk to a station.[8]

Tianhe / Zhujiang New Town · 天河 / 珠江新城

Investigate this option if a particular room, business appointment or modern-city setting is important. Compare your journeys back to the places you want, rather than assuming all hotels carrying “Tianhe” share one convenient location. A river-view label also needs the room’s actual orientation.

Pazhou or a fair-related stay · 琶洲

Choose this for an actual exhibition or business commitment, after checking the venue and date. Our suggestion: compare room availability and cancellation terms early if your visit overlaps a major event. No fixed price increase or universally difficult month is inferred from forum comments.

One family thread focuses on returning with a toddler for naps during a fair visit. That is a useful reason to compare the actual round trip, not evidence that a named hotel has a cot, award room or particular price available.[14]

An airport or station night

Choose this for a specific early or late connection, with the complete terminal or station name from the booking. Count what it saves on the connection and what it adds to the sightseeing journeys. A property near “Baiyun” is not automatically at the airport or at Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station.

Read the full name

The terminal is part of the destination.

Save the Chinese hotel address and your actual arrival terminal or railway station. Leave the arrival day flexible for formalities, luggage and check-in; published rail running times are not door-to-room times.

CAN · Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport / 广州白云国际机场

The airport’s own December 2025 account records T3 entering operation on 30 October 2025 and inter-terminal shuttle arrangements. It still described airport rail expansion as future work. Check your airline’s current terminal rather than relying on an old two-terminal guide.[2]

T1 / T2 / T3 are not interchangeable pickup addresses. Follow the current airport transport signs or ask the service desk for the terminal-specific route, luggage arrangements and final departure. This guide does not reproduce an old first/last train as today’s schedule.

T3 and the Gaozeng connection / T3 与高增站接驳

The Air Port Economic Zone’s 1 October 2026 notice describes Airport Bus 2 branch connecting Gaozeng Metro station and T3 East Passenger Station. It also describes a new Gaozeng bus site and a covered connection from the station.[1]

Its late services were extra arrangements for 1 and 5–7 October. They are not a permanent midnight timetable. Check the actual day’s connection, especially with luggage, a late arrival or mobility needs.[1]

Help after an international arrival

The provincial Foreign Affairs Office’s April 2026 report places international-visitor service hubs in T2 and T3 arrivals, with payment, telecom, transport and visitor advice. It describes 24-hour operation; staffing and the individual service you need have not been tested here.[3]

A public assistance counter and an optional paid meet-and-assist product are different services. Ask what is included and the final price before accepting a transfer or assistance package.[3]

Four railway names to read carefully

The April 2026 municipal transport feature names Guangzhou South / 广州南站, Guangzhou / 广州站, Guangzhou East / 广州东站 and Guangzhou Baiyun / 广州白云站 as different arrival stations. Match the full name on your actual ticket.[7]

Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station is not Baiyun Airport. Our suggestion: check the exact station before comparing trains, then allow for the real station-to-hotel journey. Do not choose a transfer from a broad “Guangzhou” label or an old through-train article.

Choose the connection

Keep a simple first journey.

Choose a current route to the actual door. Give yourself time for the path through a station, road crossings, bags and a return journey. The suggestions here do not activate an app, card or pass.

A Guangzhou Tram platform identified as Canton Tower station in December 2025. The sign reads Guangzhou Tram; this is not a Metro entrance.2025-12-15 18:04:28 · Jasonjiang.1998 · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

A contactless bank card may be useful

The October 2025 municipal announcement lists eligible contactless overseas-issued Visa, Mastercard, American Express and JCB cards for direct Metro gate use. The January 2026 finance authority account also reports foreign-card gate access. Individual issuer, card and device compatibility remain untested.[4][5]

Ask station staff if a card fails and keep an alternative. A bank card, a transport QR code, a stored-value card and a short-term pass are different ways to pay; check the actual product’s coverage and activation before buying.

Use the station’s current options

The April 2026 municipal guide describes station ticket purchase as an alternative to card tap-in and WeChat or Alipay channels. Choose a method you can actually use with your documents, phone and payment account.[7]

Our suggestion: resolve the first journey while help is available. Do not assume that every overseas phone, app account or phone wallet has identical support, or that a single card can be passed back to admit a whole party.

Do not travel on a future railway

The December 2025 Line 22 opening report describes the Fangcun extension and a future northern link to Baiyun Airport. It is not evidence of an operating direct Line 22 airport service. The newer T3 bus notice is the relevant dated connection evidence used here.[6]

Use the current Metro map for the actual direction and interchange. A fast design speed, construction milestone or announced future line is not a present passenger route.

A taxi, ride-hailing car or legal pickup

Our suggestion: use an identified airport queue or a clearly matched app booking. Keep the full Chinese address and confirm the actual pickup point. Do not treat a lane doorway or a hotel’s map pin as proof that a vehicle can stop there.

An arcade does not remove every obstacle

Our suggestion: choose a manageable section and leave working and residential entrances clear. Ask about a continuous step-free route for the actual destination. A photographed bridge, kerb, escalator or tram platform is not a physical accessibility check.

Reserve the anchor

Know what the booking buys.

Reserve the actual anchor, then organise the rest of the day around it. Use the full place guide for original sources and dated access details. A street walk, a museum entry, a performance and a commercial package are different arrangements.

Time and energy

Keep a plan that can change with the weather.

The port authority’s climate account describes a humid subtropical setting, abundant rain and thunderstorms, cold-air influence in winter and typhoons in summer and autumn. This is broad climate context, not a forecast for the city or your dates.[9]

Heat, rain and an indoor anchor

Our suggestion: keep a wanted museum visit and a proper rest in the plan, rather than several consecutive exposed walks. Confirm the actual galleries and time needed between spaces. A garden-form museum is not entirely an indoor attraction.

Visibility changes the high-view decision

Our suggestion: check the forecast, current venue notice and the specific product terms before a tower visit or ride. A river-level view may be satisfying when a distant skyline is hazy, but this guide cannot predict visibility or a seller’s refund decision.

A calendar matters as much as a season

Our suggestion: check weekly closures, a performance’s actual date and the current venue notice before fixing the day order. Keep a meal or street interval flexible. A festival, sports event or old late-opening report is not the ordinary year-round timetable.

At a Cantonese table

Give tea a place in the day.

Yum cha means drinking tea. The municipal food feature describes tea with steamed dim sum, baked and fried pastries, alongside roast meats, soups, claypot dishes and sweet soups. Choose a few different textures rather than ordering every name at once.[10]

The photographs here record a June 2025 meal at Panxi Restaurant, as identified by the photographer. They illustrate dishes and a table setting; they are not a current menu, price list, table reservation or inspection of the restaurant.

A few names to begin with

Siu mai at Panxi Restaurant, photographed in June 2025.2025-06-15 13:08:56 · MeiOLA 2290 WMENSZ · Original photograph · CC0

虾饺 / har gow are shrimp dumplings; 烧卖 / siu mai commonly combine pork and shrimp; 叉烧包 / char siu bao are barbecue-pork buns. Use these as menu starting points and ask about the actual recipe and portions.[10]

Our suggestion: choose one steamed dumpling, a bun or pastry and something else that interests you, then decide whether to add more. Share deliberately and ask how many pieces come in an order. A familiar English name does not establish every filling or ingredient.

Read a roll before assuming the filling

Red rice rolls at Panxi Restaurant, photographed in June 2025.2025-06-15 13:05:16 · MeiOLA 2290 WMENSZ · Original photograph · CC0

The photographed red rice rolls show a wrapper and filling in cross-section. Colour and shape alone cannot establish the complete recipe, whether seafood is inside or which sauce is served with the order. Ask the actual restaurant.

Our suggestion: show the dish name on the menu and ask staff to identify it, rather than ordering from a photograph at a different branch or from another year.

Ask about tea, portions and charges

Guangzhou’s morning-tea protection regulation took effect on 1 May 2026. Article 7 requires clear itemised pricing and says operators charging for tea service must offer a choice of basic teas. It does not set one universal tea fee for the city.[11]

Useful question: 请问茶位费每位多少钱?还有其他收费吗? — How much is the tea charge per person, and are there other charges? Ask whether the price is per person, pot, portion or weight before ordering.

A traditional-shop label has a specific meaning

The September 2026 Commerce Bureau report distinguishes 40 individually recognised restaurant branches from three recognised brand headquarters and the broader set of covered branches. A familiar brand name is not enough to identify the exact listing or meal arrangement.[12]

Our suggestion: check the current branch, opening, menu, queue and booking terms. Use a designation as context, not a promise of your preferred table, English service or a meal suited to every diet.

Explain what you need before the order

Our suggestion: show dietary requirements in writing and ask specifically about the filling, stock, sauce and cooking oil, as well as preparation and cross-contact. Do not infer vegetarian, halal or allergy suitability from a dish photograph or an English translation. Choose a place that can answer clearly.

If you need a strict preparation standard, arrange it with the actual provider before the visit. This guide has not verified a restaurant’s kitchen or individual dietary accommodation.

Prepare once

Keep the useful details offline.

Our suggestion: save the hotel’s full Chinese name and address, selected place guides, ticket references and a written list of questions. Give another member of the party the return details; a screenshot can help when a page or app is slow.

Connection and payment

The January 2026 local finance authority account describes airport assistance, cash withdrawal and exchange alongside card and mobile-payment services. That is a range of published options, not an individual guarantee for every card, currency, phone or transaction.[5]

Our suggestion: ask about the package, identification needed, activation, data and any restrictions before buying connectivity. A short-term visitor pass, a SIM package and paid arrival assistance need separate prices and terms.

The actual accommodation

Confirm passport check-in, registration handling, payment and deposit with the property before travelling. For a stay outside a hotel, use the current official accommodation-registration guidance linked in the Field guide. No registration submission or property suitability is verified by this page.

Names, questions and context

Keep the Chinese destination in each full place guide. Use the museum’s written questions for an actual show, English support or a step-free route. A brief translated request is a useful start, not evidence that a venue offers the requested service.

When something does not match

Keep the actual menu, receipt, booking terms and provider contact. For morning-tea regulatory concerns, Article 12 identifies the 12345 public-service hotline as a complaint channel. This is not emergency assistance or a tested English-language line.[11]

Our suggestion: start with the staffed provider or accommodation for the specific issue. Use current official visitor and practical guidance for the next step; do not submit passport or payment details to an unrelated person offering to fix an app.

Make the place more legible

A first look, before the journey.

Explore the individual guides for their verified films, digital resources and present visitor rules.

A real rainy-day film

The Shamian guide includes a locally tested original vertical film from the district’s English page. It is a recorded introduction, not live weather or a verified interactive panorama.

Learn to look and listen

The Opera Museum guide links UNESCO’s English introduction and explains the limits of historical digital tours. The garden, a filmed demonstration and a working online panorama are different formats.

Keep the practical part close

Open a detailed place guide to save it to your shortlist and retain the Chinese destination. These city reading tabs do not change your existing trip.

Before you ask.

How many days should I give Guangzhou?

Two full sightseeing days make a selective craft-and-opera visit. Three add a separate skyline outing; five spread the same core places over slower days. Add arrival and departure separately, and choose according to interests rather than a required checklist.

Should I stay in Liwan, Yuexiu or Tianhe?

Compare a specific property against your actual visits, station entrance, breaks and room needs. These areas are search starting points. No hotel, room view, noise level, price or registration handling has been inspected here.

Can I take the Metro directly into T3?

Use the current terminal-specific instructions. The October 2026 official notice describes the Gaozeng–T3 bus connection; a future airport rail link is not an operating route established by this guide.

Is Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station the airport?

No. Read the full station or terminal name on the booking and use the corresponding Chinese destination. Allow time for the actual transfer; a shared “Baiyun” name is not a common entrance.

Can I use my bank card on the Metro?

Published official guidance describes eligible contactless overseas cards, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express and JCB. Your card, issuer and device still need to work in the actual system; keep an alternative and ask station staff if necessary.

Is a dim-sum meal included in a museum visit?

No meal is reserved or included by this guide. Choose an actual restaurant branch, check the menu and charges, and explain dietary requirements before ordering.

Do I need to see all five places?

No. Choose a few subjects and give them enough time. A family may prefer a shorter street section, one museum and a comfortable meal to completing every guide.

Will choosing these days change my saved trip?

No. These tabs are reading options. Open the detailed guides to save Guangzhou visits to your shortlist; no unsupported automatic Guangzhou route is created.

Keep the evidence within reach

Where the details come from.

Read municipal and airport-origin transport accounts,2026finance and visitor-support information, the final morning-tea regulation and original food reporting. The five attraction guides provide the detailed history, object and venue evidence. District geography is separated from stale statistics and promotional copy. Community discussions are used for questions, not a representative ranking. Dated licensed photos retain their subjects and provenance; no hotel or airport image is substituted from another city. Areas, looking suggestions and days are editorial, not inspected accommodation, measured journeys or confirmed bookings.

How dated or conflicting information was handled

The T3 operator account and the newer October 2026 Gaozeng bus notice are read together. Holiday-only late services are not used as the ordinary last connection.[2][1]

The Line 22 extension article explicitly calls the airport link a future development. Its design speed and a station’s construction progress are not present passenger access.[6]

The April 2026 fair transport article supplies railway-station distinctions and payment alternatives. Its generic airport route is not applied to every terminal, and its fair-only services are not year-round schedules.[7]

The airport report separates public visitor-support hubs and optional paid meet-and-assist. Service descriptions are not a completed purchase, phone setup or staffing inspection.[3]

The district introduction contains older population and development material and an obvious historical-era date error. Only broad district geography and the named Beijing Road context are used; old fair-location, shipping-route and population claims are excluded.[8]

The morning-tea regulation is read in its final published text, effective May 2026. An earlier January account awaiting provincial approval is not treated as the final legal status.[11]

Traditional restaurant branches, recognised headquarters and the broader branch total are different units. Neither a designation nor a brand is presented as a current reservation or a dietary guarantee.[12]

Community posts help identify questions about breaks, real hotel doors and actual journeys. Disagreement is retained; anecdotes do not establish a best district, universal fair-period prices or a current hotel feature.[13][14]

What still needs direct confirmation

  • Actual passport entry, immigration eligibility, accommodation registration, phone setup, card compatibility and individual purchase outcomes.
  • Live airport or railway disruption, current terminal assignment, last usable connection, traffic and a continuous step-free route.
  • Hotel room quality, orientation, noise, availability, price, cancellation terms and any requested assistance.
  • Individual venue admission, performances, open galleries, workshop places, menus and restaurant dietary preparation.
  • Every place in Guangzhou: the five detailed guides are a selective starting collection, with further attractions still to research.
