Follow the lanterns.

Timber balconies above a lane. Roof tiles behind a tree. A stage lit for the evening. Leave room for small discoveries in a street made for wandering.

A short wander can be a whole visit.

Jinli works well as a flexible street pause: look up at the roof lines, choose a detail in a shop window, watch the light change, and decide whether you want a small taste or a seated break. You can enjoy the architecture and street scene without buying anything.

The present heritage-inspired street opened in October 2004; its waterside phase followed in January 2009. Its design draws on late-Qing and early-Republic Sichuan domestic architecture.[2]

For a first look, we would leave roughly an hour, with extra time if you actively want a meal, tea or a performance. This is an editorial estimate. A short selection of subjects is enough; let your interest and the actual crowd decide when to leave.

Plan your visit

A free street, with separate choices.

Ordinary street entry
Free; major festivals can bring temporary event admission or access controls.[5]
Operator’s suggested visit period
08:00–22:30; this is labelled a preferred visiting period.[5]
Published general shop period
09:00–22:00. Individual businesses need their own confirmation.[5]
Choose your reason
Architecture and photographs, a small snack, a craft question, or an optional pause after the separate Wuhou Shrine visit.

Check the label on the hours

The tour landing page instead states 09:00–22:00, with summer extension to 22:30. No single entrance cutoff or guaranteed 24-hour access is established.[6]

The shrine is a separate visit

Wuhou Shrine’s paid heritage area has its own entry rules and closing time. See our linked shrine guide before combining the two.

Price and unit before purchase

The operator specifically asks visitors to check prices, especially goods sold per gram or liang and special services.[7]

Choose what you want to spend on.

Ordinary street access and a business transaction are different decisions. Choose an optional purchase only after you understand exactly what it includes.

Do not pay for an unexplained “combined” product merely to take an ordinary street walk. Ask the seller to name the provider, included venue and exact date.

The 2026 temple fair ran 13 February–3 March with special combined-zone arrangements. That event has ended.[10]

Know what you are being offered.

For an ordinary browse, start with the operator’s current notices and map. If buying a meal, costume session, craft activity or show, read that business’s actual terms before committing.

Ask for the full price and a receipt. Confirm the accepted payment method before ordering; no particular shop, card acceptance, QR account or overseas-phone transaction has been tested.

The operator’s old maintenance notice covered December 2025–January 2026. It does not establish a closure on this guide’s review date.[9]

Find your bearings

An old-city aesthetic, a modern street project.

Construction began in 2000 as a Wuhou Shrine Museum project. The street’s buildings, lanes, water and commercial uses form a deliberately composed visitor setting.[2]

Look at the photograph as an invitation to read a street: shop fronts at eye level, a line of roofs above them, trees behind and people moving between. Some details are easiest to see in daylight; the evening adds another layer of light.

Use the operator’s own map to find a named feature and current facilities. Our groups below are reading choices, not a measured walk or a surveyed step-free route.

A closer reading

What to look for.

These subjects can be enjoyed independently. Dated photographs help you recognise forms and details; current signs, businesses, access and prices take precedence.

01

A useful arrival cue

锦里

The name on the entrance

A Jinli entrance photograph from October 2009. Use present signs for today’s access.2009-10-10 · Fanghong · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 3.0

The older entrance photograph makes the two characters 锦里 easy to recognise. Save the full Chinese destination and today’s intended entrance before setting off.

Look at the frame, lantern rows and view through the opening. The 2009 photograph records a particular appearance; the current approach should come from present signs and the operator’s map.

Our looking suggestionRecognise the name, then choose a detail above eye level.

02

Architecture before shopping

青瓦屋檐

Read the street from the top down

Roof lines above a busy lane, April 2019. The crowd records that moment.2019-04-13 20:08:11 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

A line of dark roof tiles meets foliage and pale sky. In the photograph, projecting eaves and taller roof ends give the lane a rhythm that is easy to miss when every shop window competes for attention.

Try looking along one side of the street for thirty seconds. Follow the roof edge, then the timber doors beneath it. Choose a wider frame if you want to show how those layers fit together.

Our looking suggestionStand clear of the main flow while looking up.

03

The view between two fronts

街巷与连廊

A room above the lane

Buildings and an overhead connection in Jinli, April 2019. Shop signs and businesses may have changed.2019-04-13 20:05:45 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

An overhead connection joins the two sides in this photograph. Lanterns repeat up the façades, while a rectangular opening pulls the eye into the street beyond.

Look at the difference between the building as a whole and its smaller repeating parts: doors, window panels, balconies and lantern strings. A busy scene can still yield a very simple architectural photograph.

Our looking suggestionFrame the opening first, then decide whether people add useful scale.

04

A stage, whether or not a show is on

锦里古戏台

Read a theatre through its doors

Jinli’s theatre-stage setting, April 2019. An empty stage in a photograph does not establish today’s programme.2019-04-13 20:15:59 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

The operator explains the stage’s 出将 and 入相 doors as the performers’ entrance and return.[5]

Compare the earlier and later light in these photographs. Roof edges, carved timber and the open stage have a different emphasis once the lighting changes. A quiet stage can be an architectural subject in its own right.

If you want a live performance, ask for the actual date, time, duration and price. A recorded festival clip or the operator’s general programme description does not establish an ordinary daily performance.

The stage lit after dark, April 2019. No performance date or ordinary show schedule is established.2019-04-13 22:03:53 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

Our looking suggestionFind the stage opening before looking for a performer.

05

Find the named feature

西蜀第一街牌坊

An archway between phases

The operator identifies the “First Street of Western Shu” archway as the division between the first phase and waterside Jinli.[5]

Use 西蜀第一街牌坊 on its own map to find it. A stone archway, an entrance frame and a timber connection above a lane can look similar in a quick travel caption; take a moment to identify which one you are photographing.

Our looking suggestionRead the material and the name before deciding what a gateway marks.

06

A different pace of looking

水岸景观

Give the water a whole frame

Water beside a timber-fronted building, May 2018. This is a dated landscape view.2018-05-22 18:32 · xiquinhosilva · Original photograph · CC BY 2.0

The dated photographs show timber-fronted buildings beside water and a roof partly hidden by dense foliage. The specific water body is not assigned a name from the filenames.

Try a frame that includes the edge of the water, a building and a tree. Those three layers make a more legible place than a close-up of a reflection alone. Follow the permitted path and barriers around the water.

A pavilion-like roof behind a pond and foliage, April 2019. The water body is not assigned a specific name from the filename.2019-04-13 20:14:47 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

Our looking suggestionNotice what the building looks like before looking at its reflection.

07

A second look at the street

夜色连廊

Light above a shared passage

A brightly lit overhead connection and surrounding shops, April 2019. This is not identified as the separate stone archway.2019-04-13 20:49:07 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

In the night photograph, electric colour outlines the timber structure and shop signs. Compare this with the softer daylight image earlier in the guide.

Use a short pause for a photograph and leave the passage clear. Current shops and decorative lighting may differ; you are looking for a relationship between layers of the scene, not a promise of one identical arrangement.

Our looking suggestionTry one wide composition with a clear opening through the frame.

08

Read a legend as a legend

诸葛井与阿斗井

Two names, two stories

Adou Well’s Liu Shan/Huiling association is presented as a legend on the operator’s map, alongside Zhuge Well.[5]

A named well can be a good question for a guide: which part is a local story, which part is documented, and when was the visible structure made? Knowing the difference adds interest without requiring every story to become archaeological fact.

Our looking suggestionAsk for the source of a story as well as its ending.

09

A modern act of preservation

民俗记忆墙

A gift addressed to the future

The operator describes a folk-memory wall begun with the 2009 expansion: representative craft works were sealed for a planned opening on 23 January 2109.[5]

That idea makes a useful question for your own visit: which ordinary thing would you preserve for a person a century from now? A shop display, a making technique and an object kept as a record each preserve something different.

Our looking suggestionLook for the wall’s explanation; the sealed works are not all promised as visible objects.

10

A dated souvenir display

脸谱与纪念品

A painted face in a shop window

A souvenir display photographed in May 2010. Painted masks and red decorations are historical shop stock.2010-05-14 08:10 · Sasha India · Original photograph · CC BY 2.0

The 2010 photograph shows small painted masks with strongly contrasting eyes, brows and colour blocks. Red hanging decorations fill the space around them.

If you find a similar object on your visit, ask what it represents, what it is made from and who made it. A shop label or demonstration should explain a particular object; appearance alone does not prove it is handmade or an antique.

The operator describes craft subjects including Shu embroidery, brocade, bamboo weaving over porcelain and shadow puppetry. Actual displays and participation require confirmation.[2]

Our looking suggestionChoose one object you want to understand before choosing one to buy.

11

An oversized face among the lights

人物文创

History becomes a contemporary character

A large stylised character figure among lights, April 2019. No historical person or present location is inferred.2019-04-13 21:14:52 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

This photographed figure has an oversized head and a compact body. Its setting turns the street into a very different sort of image from the memorial figures inside Wuhou Shrine.

We do not assign it a historical identity from the filename. If a current display interests you, read its own label or ask the seller which person or story it represents.

Our looking suggestionCompare the visual language of a souvenir character and a commemorative statue.

12

A useful menu starting point

三大炮与糖油果子

Two sweet names to recognise

A 2 March 2026 first-person festival account in People’s Daily Overseas Edition describes rice balls rolled in soybean powder and finished with brown-sugar syrup, alongside the names sandapao and tangyouguozi. It records that festival, not a current stall recommendation.[13]

A Sichuan Culture & Tourism account describes tangyouguozi as fried glutinous-rice balls with brown sugar and sesame, often on a stick. Its 2021 price is not reused here.[14]

Look for 三大炮 or 糖油果子 on an actual menu, then ask about this seller’s ingredients, portion and preparation. A familiar dish name does not establish a particular recipe or price. Choose a small portion if you simply want a taste.

Our looking suggestionAsk what is in today’s version before ordering.

13

Point, ask, then choose

熟食与鸭头

Know what the tray contains

A prepared-food counter photographed in April 2019, including duck heads. Ask the seller about each current dish and ingredient.2019-04-13 21:57:38 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

The prepared-food photograph includes duck heads beside other items. Treat it as a dated counter view: it does not identify every adjacent food, its seasoning, price or present availability.

Point to the exact item and ask its Chinese name. If a head, bone or unfamiliar cut is part of the experience you want, ask how it is normally eaten; if not, choose another clearly explained item. There is no need to order a food merely because it appears on a “must try” list.

Our looking suggestionStart with the name and the portion, not the novelty.

14

Read the actual product

榴莲摊位

A street can contain many kinds of food

A stall displaying durian, April 2019. Products and prices in this archival photograph are not current offers.2019-04-13 21:16:32 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

The stall photograph has whole durian hanging above a lit counter. It shows how varied a commercial street’s food offer can be; the fruit’s presence does not make every item a traditional Sichuan speciality.

Ask whether you are buying fruit, a prepared dessert or another product, and whether the price is per piece, portion or weight. Confirm the total before the item is cut or prepared.

Our looking suggestionRead the product, not just the large picture on the sign.

15

A pause is part of the visit

水岸休息与消费

Choose a seat deliberately

A waterside commercial frontage, April 2019. The named business and its current terms are not verified.2019-04-13 21:20:53 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

The photograph records a lit waterside commercial frontage in April 2019. Its business name is historical; we have not accepted its present opening, menu or view from a particular seat.

If you want to sit, ask for a menu first. Confirm whether tea is charged per person or pot, whether a seat or performance adds a fee, and how long any included experience lasts. Choose the pause you actually want.

Our looking suggestionAsk “What does this price include?” before taking the seat.

16

Repetition and colour

灯笼与街巷

Look at the spaces between the lanterns

Red lanterns above a covered lane, April 2019. Lighting and shop arrangements are historical.2019-04-13 20:57:21 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

The wider photograph shows lanterns leading the eye along a covered lane. The closer view makes their different proportions and spacing easier to see.

The operator gives summer lighting around 19:00 and winter around 18:00, with weather-related adjustments.[5]

A single lantern, a line of lanterns and a whole street are three different photographs. Choose one idea and keep room for people moving through the lane.

A closer look at hanging lanterns, April 2019. Notice shape, repetition and the light between them.2019-04-13 21:08:42 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

Our looking suggestionThe dark spaces between bright objects can give the picture its shape.

17

The building and its reflection

夜色水岸

Two lines of light

A waterside night view, April 2019. Reflections make a second line of light on the water.2019-04-13 21:23:39 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

The water turns the lit frontage into a second, less stable line. A tree trunk and darker foliage break up the reflection in this 2019 night view.

Try including enough of the real bank to show where the reflection begins. Use a permitted stopping place; keep to barriers and leave bridge crossings and steps clear.

Our looking suggestionFind one still shape and one broken reflection.

18

Finish with a detail

街巷一角

A smaller view before you leave

A lantern-lit side view, April 2019. A single photograph cannot predict a quiet visiting hour.2019-04-13 21:29:40 · Zairon · Original photograph · CC BY-SA 4.0

The side view concentrates on timber doors, a sign and a few warm lights. A darker corner can be as rewarding as the broadest street scene.

Before leaving, save the actual exit and the journey from it. A photograph of an empty-looking section does not establish a reliable quiet hour or an open shortcut.

Our looking suggestionChoose one final detail, then let the visit be complete.

Choose what matters

Make the visit yours.

For a flexible first visit; roughly an hour is an editorial estimate.

One street, a few discoveries.

Keep
A name, a roof line, the stage and one optional small purchase.
The trade-off
You leave some named features and a full meal for another visit.
  1. Check access and choose your finish

Read present notices and save the exit connection you would use.

  2. Look up first

Compare the timber fronts, roofs and an overhead connection.

  3. Choose one extra

A named map feature, a small taste or a craft question.

  4. Finish when you have enough

A shorter wander is a complete visit; keep the return journey comfortable.

This is a choice of subjects, not a surveyed walking sequence, live crowd forecast or guaranteed open route.

All outlines are editorial estimates, not field-tested routes. Follow current admission rules and venue directions.

Arrival, energy and interpretation

Get the details right.

Arrive beside the shrine.

The neighbouring museum publishes Metro Line 10 to Wuhou Shrine (Jinli), 武侯祠(锦里), Exit A2; Gaoshengqiao, Lines 3/5, Exit A is an alternative.[11]

Jinli’s published address is 231 Wuhouci Street, Annex 1.[2]

Use 锦里文化旅游街区 for the street and 成都武侯祠博物馆 for the museum. Tell a driver which visit you mean and check the current authorised drop-off.

We have not measured the connection, tested a continuous step-free path or verified current parking tariffs. An exit label and an illustrated map are useful preparation; use present station and street signs for the journey.

Useful questions while browsing.

Point to the exact item or service. Confirm the total and what it includes before agreeing.

请问这个是按份、按个、按克还是按两收费?总共多少钱?

Is this priced per portion, item, gram or liang? What is the total?

我想先买一小份。请问一份有多少?

Can it be made without chilli? Is it made to order or already seasoned?

请问茶是按人还是按壶收费?还有其他费用吗?

Is tea charged per person or per pot? Are there any other fees?

请问这是什么工艺?是手工制作的吗?可以看制作过程吗?

Is there a performance today? When, for how long, where and at what price?

请问去地铁十号线武侯祠(锦里)站怎么走?

How do I reach Wuhou Shrine (Jinli) station on Metro Line 10?

Ask the unit as well as the price

For an item you choose, ask whether the quote is per piece, portion, person, gram or liang, then confirm the total. Keep a receipt and use the actual business’s payment procedure.

A busy stall, a large review count or a familiar dish name can help you notice a place; none substitutes for understanding the item you are buying.

Eating with clear expectations

Ask about ingredients and preparation at the specific counter. A small taste can be enjoyable without becoming your whole meal. If a menu is unclear, ask staff to name the dish and show the portion before you order.

For restrictions, explain the actual ingredients you need to avoid and ask whether the seller can meet that request. This guide does not certify a dish, kitchen or shop for any dietary requirement.

Crafts, costumes and performances

Ask what is handmade, who makes it and which part you may participate in. For a costume or photo session, confirm the number of images, retouching, delivery method and any additional charge.

For a show, confirm the actual venue, time and product. A festival video can make a useful preview while being a different offer from an ordinary-day visit.

Bags, mobility and asking for help

The operator’s map marks a visitor centre, storage and other facilities. Check the point’s current opening, charge and retrieval deadline before leaving anything.[5]

Ask for currently usable paths and avoid committing to a circuit before you understand the steps and narrow areas. Wheelchair access, toilets, equipment availability and storage have not been physically accepted.

The visitor rules direct people needing help to street staff or the visitor centre. They also warn about uneven paving and ask visitors to keep the street usable.[7]

How conflicting descriptions were handled

The map’s preferred visit period, general shop period and the tour landing page’s hours have different labels. They are not combined into a universal all-day access guarantee.

Jinli’s map incorrectly labels Wuhou station as Line 3. The museum’s current Line 10/A2 guidance takes precedence; exact walking and taxi times are omitted.

The December 2025–January 2026 maintenance notice is historical on the review date. The ended 2026 temple fair is not ordinary admission or a future programme.

The present street’s modern development is clear despite “ancient street” branding. No world-best ranking or unbroken ancient-building claim is used.

The operator’s stage account mentions old timber and recurring shows. No exact timber age or ordinary live-show time is inferred. The well association remains explicitly a legend.

The map’s Liu Xiang marker and Song-stone corridor are not turned into an automatically included street route or a verified current object count.

The night timber connection is distinct from the operator’s stone archway. Pond photographs are described by what is visible; no specific named water body is inferred from a broad filename.

Historical food and souvenir photos do not establish current shop stock, prices or opening. Neither a stylised character nor every prepared item receives a name from an unreliable filename.

The first-person festival food report supplies a description, not a current vendor endorsement. The 2021 tangyouguozi price is omitted. Recipes and dietary suitability need the actual counter.

Two original community threads contain both favourable food/adjacency views and criticism of commercialisation. No universal price premium, local-visitor percentage or “best time” is extracted.[15][16]

The selected operator clip’s actual scenes and title were inspected. Its 2026/08 asset folder does not establish a filming year; recorded performances are not daily offers.

What still needs direct confirmation

  • Actual individual-business hours, menus, recipe details, prices, dietary suitability and overseas-card/QR transactions.
  • Live performance dates/times, human-language provision, participation terms, current decorative lighting and temporary access controls.
  • A current storage transaction, usable toilets, wheelchair route, continuous step-free station connection or physical-phone experience.
  • Complete video playback, speech/subtitles, audio, overseas reliability and a working photographic360Jinlitour.

Film verification: 29 October 2026: the operator’s actual button opened a native player after the page loaded. Playback exceeded two seconds; duration 33.713333 seconds, 1280 × 720. Decoded samples at 3, 15.508 and 27.982 seconds were individually viewed. An initial click before page hydration did not open the player; waiting for the ordinary page load resolved it. Some seek requests were aborted while decoded frames still worked. This local site’s chosen player subsequently played beyond two seconds at both 390px and 1440px. Full playback, audio, physical phones and overseas reliability remain untested.
