Shenzhen · In-depth place guide
平安金融中心·云际观光层
Everything changes with distance.
A city of towers, green hills and water. Rise above Futian, then take time to read what lies below.
Look beyond the height.
From a street corner, the tower feels almost too tall to fit in a photograph. From above, the streets become thin lines and whole buildings become roof shapes. The interesting part of Free Sky is that change in scale: a chance to connect the city you have walked through with the hills, lawns and water around it.
Free Sky’s visitor destination is labelled 116F in Ping An Finance Centre.[1]
We suggest allowing roughly one to two hours after reaching the visitor area, with more time for an exhibition or a deliberate change from daylight to evening. This is an editorial estimate, not a queue forecast. Make the weather, your interest in high views and the actual ticket terms part of the decision.
Plan your visit
Choose the view you want.
- Published hours
- Trip.com lists 10:00–20:00, last admission 19:15, subject to the day’s conditions.[1]
- A weather decision
- Choose a day for visibility, not just a slot on the itinerary. A real hazy view is included below so you can judge the tradeoff.
- A current exhibition
- Xinhua reported a Shenzhen science-and-technology exhibition at the deck in September 2026. Confirm the actual programme and admission terms for your date.[8]
- Your visit
- Windows and city-reading can be enough. Ask separately about any glass-platform activity, VR or paid photograph.
Opening references do not all agree
Bendibao lists later Friday/Saturday closing than the ticket seller. Do not plan a late visit without confirmation. Closing, last admission and clearing are different cutoffs.[3]
Discounts need the actual product rules
Current seller senior eligibility differs from an older branded tariff. At a child-height boundary or with an overseas document, obtain confirmation for the exact ticket before paying.
Audio is reported; the signage project was still a plan
A 20 October report lists English among six audio-guide languages. Its bilingual-signage upgrade was due before November; we have not verified completion.[7]
Buy the actual visit.
Choose a dated, named admission product. Compare what is included, where it is redeemed and the cancellation deadline, rather than treating all listings as interchangeable.
Published seller snapshots checked 29 October 2026; no date inventory, purchase or refund was tested.
Adult price snapshot · 29 October 2026
- Published reference
- Qunar displayed adult admission from CNY 180; multiple offers had different prices and advance-booking terms.
- Your decision
- A displayed starting price is not live availability. Open the actual date and product.
Child, student or senior ticket
- Published reference
- Concessions are product-specific. The exact boundary, document and redemption process matter.
- Your decision
- Confirm height/age on the travel date, accompanying adult, accepted overseas proof and any exchange step.
VR, photo or other add-on
- Published reference
- Request an itemised description of what your chosen admission includes.
- Your decision
- Check any separate charge, restrictions, language, duration and whether it is operating.
Exhibition or event
- Published reference
- A dated show or special event needs its own current notice.
- Your decision
- Confirm public access and any extra ticket. An event announcement is not a universal admission promise.

Seller references: senior 65+; student CNY 150, child CNY 100, senior CNY 120. The detailed child rule excludes 1.5m despite a less precise range display. Confirm accepted proof.[1]
Qunar’s captured CNY 190/200 variants were bookable for tomorrow, not verified same-day offers.[2]
Check the ticket before you pay.
Before paying, save the product name, date, traveller count, total charge, cancellation cutoff and collection instructions. Check whether an overseas passport name/number can be entered and whether the original document must be shown. A seller’s English interface alone does not establish a successful overseas-visitor transaction.
Seller products differ on collection versus direct access. Read your voucher.[1]
If you are travelling with children, measure height and ask about the exact boundary in writing. For a concession, ask whether your actual passport or overseas student document is accepted; do not substitute a domestic-ID rule.
When visibility matters more than a particular date, compare cancellation terms with the forecast before committing. Ask what happens if access is suspended or the horizon is obscured. We have not tested refunds or a weather-related claim.
Saving Free Sky to your shortlist keeps the guide handy. It does not buy admission, reserve an add-on or build an automatic Shenzhen itinerary.
Find your bearings
Read the city at three distances.
Begin at the horizon: sky, hills and the edge of water. Bring your attention closer to large roofs and the spaces between towers. Finally look down at an ordinary junction or a tiny patch of garden. This gives a high view a subject beyond counting tall buildings.
The dated north-facing photograph shows Civic Center’s wing-like roof and a long green central axis. Compare the shape with the museum and park guides before trying to identify smaller buildings. Window signs and the actual compass direction are better guides than guessing from a reflection.
The photographed 2018–2019 views record real conditions, including haze and interior reflections. They are illustrations of how to look, not today’s visibility or an unchanged skyline.
Understand the tower
Read the view
Choose your own experience
The selected September construction photograph shows cranes at the unfinished crown. It records the making of the tower, not an experience available to visitors.
The Council on Vertical Urbanism’s building database records completion in 2017 and architectural height 599.1m. Its floor-count and observation-height fields use other definitions; we keep the visitor label separate.[5]
The older branded introduction dates Free Sky’s opening to 8 March 2018.[10]
Xinhua’s September report describes the science-and-technology exhibition inside the observation attraction. Check today’s programme before making it the purpose of your visit.[8]
A closer reading
What to look for.
Go beyond a single panorama photograph. These are fifteen subjects to choose from, with genuine, individually reviewed photographs. You can enjoy a few without attempting every window or optional experience.
Before the lift
平安金融中心外观
Find the tower from the street
Pause at a safe public viewing point and notice how the upper profile narrows. A straight-up photograph emphasises height; a more distant view includes the surrounding city and makes the contrast in scale easier to understand.
KPF’s project account identifies the practice as architect and describes a podium of retail and public spaces connected with urban transport. The visitor experience occupies one part of a much larger working complex.[4]
Our looking suggestionTry one image with a neighbouring building in the frame. Keep crossings and entrances clear.
Architecture in daylight
不锈钢幕墙
A surface that changes with the light
The material supplier identifies Supra 316L stainless steel with a Deco Linen finish. Read that as a specific material reference, rather than a guarantee about every surface or an environmental performance claim.[6]
Look for the vertical rhythm and the way bright edges stand against darker glazing. Then return to the full silhouette: the detail and the distant outline tell different parts of the same design story.
Our looking suggestionIf you like architectural detail, daylight outside may be as rewarding as another photograph from the top.
An archival change of scale
建设中的塔冠
A crown once full of cranes
In the September 2015 photograph, the top is a work site: cranes, temporary surfaces and an exposed structure above the surrounding blocks. It is a useful companion to the finished-tower image because it makes construction visible.
Look at the grid of streets beneath the cranes, then at the much smaller repeated forms of nearby towers. This historical image does not establish a public roof, a climb or permission to enter construction and service areas.
Our looking suggestionUse the photograph as building history. Visitor access follows the actual attraction ticket.
A named visitor destination
入口与售票区
The visit starts below the view
The April 2019 photographs show an illuminated visitor entrance and a row of ticket kiosks. They help convey the scale and presentation of the arrival area; current machines, payment methods and document support require their own confirmation.
Have the Chinese attraction name and your voucher ready. If the entrance you reach is an office lobby, ask for 云际观光层游客入口. Confirm where your particular ticket must be collected and where the lift queue begins.
Our looking suggestionResolve the collection step before joining a queue.
Find an unmistakable shape
北向视野与市民中心
A green line through a tower district
The October 2018 north-facing photograph offers a useful first landmark: Civic Center’s broad wing-like roof, with green open space extending along the central axis. It provides a recognisable shape among many similar tower faces.
Start with the roof rather than a building name. Trace the green strip, follow the roads crossing it and notice how much open space is visible. If you have already visited Civic Center or Lianhuashan, connect that ground-level memory with the view.
Our looking suggestionUse the real directional signs. Do not identify a landmark from a mirrored window image alone.
Let one patch of green hold the view
山丘与街区
The city has a green foreground
The November 2019 photograph shows a densely wooded hill enclosed by city blocks. Its compact, dark canopy is a useful visual pause among the repeated light rectangles of buildings.
Notice the edge where tree cover meets roads and towers. A distant panorama can make the city seem uniformly built; following one green boundary reveals a more complicated pattern. We leave this particular photograph’s hill unnamed rather than infer an exact identity from its angle.
Our looking suggestionFind a larger and a smaller patch of green. Give each a moment before moving to the next window.
Look for broad, low shapes
屋顶、尺度与道路
A roof can be a landmark too
A November 2019 photograph records the broad Futian convention-and-exhibition roof amid taller buildings. Its long form is a change from the narrow vertical shapes that dominate most skyline photographs.
Compare the roof span with the width of a road or a nearby block. Then notice the smaller rooftop marked with an H in the second photograph. Neither a roof marking nor a view of it is a helicopter service offered with admission.
Our looking suggestionStart with shape and scale; check a map or window label before attaching a precise place name.
Look past the nearest towers
水域与城市边缘
Where dense building meets water
The photographed view brings together dense buildings, branching waterways and large pale water areas. It is a good reminder to let the eye travel beyond the nearest group of towers.
We have not established the exact bridge or boundary shown in this frame. If identifying a border landscape matters to you, use current interpretive signs and a reliable map. What can be seen across a window is separate from where you are permitted to travel.
Our looking suggestionTry following the water rather than the roads. Avoid turning an uncertain distant feature into a confident caption.
A view at your own comfort level
向下看的城市
Ordinary streets become a drawing
Downward photographs reveal geometric patterns that are difficult to see from the pavement: streets crossing at angles, tiny planting beds, repeated building footprints and the building frame in front of you.
The selected views are through glazing and structural elements. They do not by themselves establish that a photographer stood on a transparent floor. If the downward angle feels uncomfortable, choose a horizon view or remain farther from the window.
Our looking suggestionLooking straight down is optional. Keep a comfortable distance and give others space.
Decide what kind of photograph you want
日景、日落与蓝调时刻
One city, several kinds of light
Compare the bright July 2018 cloud scene, the November 2019 sunset and the later blue-hour city. Daylight reveals terrain and roof detail. At dusk, the sky and the first illuminated roads can compete for attention. A sunset frame records one evening, not a view you can buy in advance.
If you want a transition, check the local sunset time for the actual date and leave a margin for arrival, collection and queues. There is no single all-year “best hour”. If the sky is closed in, reconsider whether a long wait suits the rest of your day.
Our looking suggestionChoose one priority: landscape detail, warm light or illuminated roads. A short clear visit can be enough.
Optional thrills
透明观景体验
Choose your own degree of height
The older branded facilities page describes transparent viewing areas. Ask which areas are operating and included on your date, and follow the actual rules at the entrance.[11]
There is no need to complete a glass-floor activity to make the visit worthwhile. Keep a comfortable viewing distance, agree a meeting point with companions and let children choose whether they want to approach. Ask staff for the appropriate route if you want to avoid a particular feature.
Our looking suggestionA calm horizon photograph and a glass-platform pose are different choices. Neither is compulsory.
Check the dated exhibition
中国方案·科创互联
A current story inside the skyline
Xinhua’s 7 September 2026 account places the 中国方案·科创互联 exhibition here, with examples involving drones, cross-device systems, AI office tools and overseas-card payment demonstrations. It is a reported exhibition, not our endorsement of those products.[8]
Choose one demonstration and ask what is actually being shown: a working object, a simulation, a promotional film or a service example. Confirm current opening, any separate admission, demonstration times and English support. The report does not establish that every visitor can try every device today.
Our looking suggestionAsk what is demonstrated live and what is displayed as an example. A payment demonstration does not test your own card.
Know what is being offered
VR与创意照片
A virtual ride is a different purchase
The older branded pages describe a VR roller-coaster scenario and composited “extreme” photographs. These describe virtual or produced experiences, not an actual ride between towers, a helicopter trip or a balloon flight. Present operation and inclusions remain unverified.[11]
Before accepting an add-on, ask for its total price, age or height conditions, language, time, and the number and format of any photo files or prints. Decide after seeing the description. A picture-making service and the view itself can be enjoyed separately.
Our looking suggestionRead the package description and ask to see an example before paying.
Work with the actual conditions
玻璃反光与夜景
Let the glass be part of the photograph
The November 2019 night image contains strong reflections and visible frame lines. Treat those as real conditions to work around or deliberately include. Move gently to a different angle, choose a darker background behind you and see whether a wider composition tells the story better.
Avoid flash against glass. Ask about tripods and larger equipment before bringing them, and keep ordinary walkways clear. The photograph is evidence of one moment’s reflections; it is not proof of today’s equipment rules or a guarantee of an unobstructed window.
Our looking suggestionTake one image with the frame and one with less reflection. Check both before taking many more.

Try the recorded skyline before you go
The branded VR link opens a recorded panorama with aerial city scenes and named viewing scenes. The initial desktop load was incomplete; a longer bounded check rendered the city and verified rotation. Capture date, overseas access and English narration remain unconfirmed.[19]
Use an online view to decide whether the scale and perspective interest you. It cannot predict the weather, present skyline, window access or actual programme on your visit date. Helicopter-shaped navigation icons in the tour are not a bookable flight.
Our looking suggestionOpen the original panorama below. Give it time to load; it is separate from a live camera.
Choose what matters
Make the visit yours.
For a first high view without trying every add-on.
Three subjects, then a pause.
- Keep
- A horizon, a recognisable landmark and a small piece of city detail.
- The trade-off
- You can skip VR, produced photographs and a wait for sunset.
Arrive with the right voucher
Complete the actual collection and security process.
Find a comfortable horizon
Let your eyes adjust to the distance.
Choose a recognisable shape
Use a window label or the north-facing Civic Center photograph.
Look near, then far
Compare one road, roof or patch of green with the wider landscape.
Our route is a viewing suggestion. Use current open areas and staff directions.
All outlines are editorial estimates, not field-tested routes. Follow current admission rules and venue directions.
Arrival, energy and interpretation
Get the details right.
Find the visitor entrance first.
Hong Kong MTR’s visitor leaflet directs travellers to Shenzhen Metro Shopping Park (购物公园), Line 1, Exit D. Treat its approximate walk as orientation, not a surveyed step-free route; follow current station and attraction signs.[9]
For a driver or station employee, show the Chinese destination below and the actual voucher’s entrance or counter information. Check the legal drop-off point rather than asking to stop at any door facing the tower.
Published addresses include 5033 Yitian Road and seller-listed 16 Fuhua 4th Road. Confirm the specific visitor entrance; an address is not a doorway.[12][1]
Useful questions before the lift.
Show the Chinese sentence or use the copy button. A question helps you confirm a service; it does not establish that the service is available.

English and audio
The 20 October report lists Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, English and Russian audio guides. Ask about device availability, price or deposit, operating instructions and whether your chosen exhibition has English interpretation. We have not borrowed a device or tested the narration.[7]
Access and a comfortable visit
Ask for the current step-free entrance, lift connection, accessible toilet and seating arrangements you need. The same October report describes these facility names within a planned bilingual-signage project; it does not establish a continuously usable route from a particular Metro exit.[7]
If height, a lift or a particular activity is uncomfortable, discuss a suitable option with staff before paying. Actual medical suitability needs your own advice; this guide does not assess an individual’s condition.
Bags, drinks and essentials
Check today’s rules before arrival, especially for a large bag, camera equipment, drinking water, infant supplies or medical essentials. Ask about storage size, opening times and retrieval before leaving valuables or anything you need during the visit.
The older branded rule sheet contains restrictive liquid/container language and a guide-dog exception to its pet rule. We have not established whether the same wording applies today; confirm any required exception directly.[13]
An event needs its own access
Nanfang reported an invitation-based vertical race on 24 October 2026. A specialist race is not routine public stair access, and its past schedule should not be used as today’s opening calendar.[17]
A recorded city panorama
Change your point of view.
Open the branded site’s original recorded panorama. Desktop and 390px external-link checks rendered the city and verified dragging; the first short check had only shown loading. This is not a live view.[19]

Before you ask.
Is Free Sky worth it in haze?
Compare the genuine hazy photograph with what you want from the visit. A close city pattern can still interest an architecture enthusiast, but a distant landscape may not be visible. Decide using the actual conditions and your product’s terms.
Does my admission include VR or a helicopter ride?
Read your actual product. Older promotional VR and composited-photo descriptions do not establish any physical flight, present operation or included add-on.
Can I use an overseas document for a discount?
Ask the seller or attraction about your actual document and product. We have not tested a foreign-passport purchase, concession exchange or payment.
Is the panorama current?
It is a recorded tour with no confirmed capture date. It cannot predict the weather, skyline changes or access on your visit.
Dates, sources and photographs
Follow the evidence.
Checked 29 October 2026 using the architect and material supplier, an attributed tall-building database, original dated reporting, identified current commercial seller pages and an older branded site copy. One original traveller thread supplied a visibility/crowd question only. Photographs were individually reviewed; viewing prompts and time estimates are editorial. No physical visit, overseas-document transaction, payment, refund or accessibility route was tested.

How conflicting descriptions were handled
The branded copy includes holiday dates from 2020–2021 and old tariff language. It is identified as archival, not used as today’s booking authority. Its 60+ senior condition conflicts with the current seller’s 65+ condition.[14][15]
Seller pages share one conservative source budget. Qunar’s tomorrow labels do not establish same-day inventory.[2]
A specialised database separates architectural height, highest occupied level, observatory height and floor-count definitions. We publish the 599.1m architectural figure and keep “116F” as the visitor label, without inventing a reconciliation of incompatible observatory-height claims.[5]
The MTR leaflet supports its Metro approach, but its rounded 600m glass-platform description is not adopted as an observation height.[9]
The May 2026 cultural-fair free-ticket allocation and extended hours were an event offer. They are not presented as ordinary current admission.[16]
The October audio-guide report and its still-planned signage project are kept distinct. Availability and actual English operation were not tested.[7]
The original June 2025 Reddit post reports a clear, quiet weekday visit. That personal experience is not a price, crowd or weather guarantee.[18]
A same-name Commons result depicts another building and was excluded after visual review. Construction views remain explicitly historical; glass-framed photos do not prove a transparent floor.
The panorama’s first short probe showed only loading. A longer normal-browser probe rendered a genuine aerial scene and verified rotation, despite auxiliary request errors. See the dated local test record.[19]
What still needs direct confirmation
- Current date-specific availability, complete product inclusions and exact overseas concession-document acceptance remain untested.
- Actual entrance/counter location and a continuous step-free route from a current station exit have not been physically surveyed.
- Visibility, window access, queue length and exact current exhibition/demonstration programme vary and have not been accepted on site.
- English audio-guide quality, loan stock, deposit and narration coverage have not been tested.
- Full panorama scene navigation, capture date, English narration, overseas access and physical-phone operation remain unconfirmed.
- No native original video has yet passed playback verification for this guide.
