Set up before departure
Official guidance describes mobile payments, bank cards and RMB cash as payment options. Use the official Alipay, WeChat Pay or UnionPay setup flow, then follow the product’s instructions for linking an eligible card. Linking may require approval from your card issuer.
Read the screen in front of you
Supported cards, charges and limits vary by product. Use the current in-app terms rather than a fee figure copied from an old travel post. Check that you can receive your bank’s verification messages abroad.
Keep a second option
Ask about card acceptance before relying on it for a large payment. Prepare an appropriate RMB cash or alternate-card backup. After arrival, try a small ordinary purchase before making the first payment a time-critical booking.
